So, life and computers are both full of entropy and bitrot. It's way more of a struggle than it shoud be.
First, typos suck; One of my remote machines went wonky, and I had to get into it, but something has been funny. Turns out I mistyped a 5 for a 6, and that is just dumb, ugh.
Second, checked some logs and the thing I thought had gotten stuck or got busted turns out to be working fine. So, I tried to send mail and it turns out that our was-working reverse IP broke, so that bites. So, now I have to explain why something broke, and also why we didn't catch it. Plus I have to hunt down a guy to fix it. Fun!
Plus now I have to figure a bit of monitoring. I was using some $2 scripts to do so, but as things become a bit more important, I think a real monitoring package would be helpful. I last used Nagios for this, but I think that is long in the tooth now. Maybe time to do a bit of digging here?
