Netbooting - the first steps

You'd think I don't have experience with netbooting, but you'd be wrong. I haven't done so in a number of years, so I'm a bit rusty, though. I haven't done so for an ARM based architecture yet, but not for long. I did get the remote server set up, and I got the DHCP/bootp stuff going. I got the boot files and I've snagged the NFS mount stuff, and the files which will form the root filesystem. What I still need is to get a complete boot to happen -- right now, it grabs an IP, talks to the tftp server and boots the kernel, and then... doesn't do much. I have to share out the files on NFS and also ensure the Pi is mounting them. If this goes smoothly, I'll fire up my 2GB Pi with a fan and see if I can run a pod or three there, and maybe even try one of my 4GB ones with an external fan.
