Predictions 2023

I used to try and predict what would be new in technology and security in the next year, but now I haven't done one of these in a while. So, what will be new in the new year?

One thing is that while the peak of inflation is behind us, I think that we'll end up in a recession for a bit. How bad it will be remains to be seen.

I see some supply chain issues starting to clear, but then there are things like the Covid wave in China right now that might throw a wrench into that again. Have to watch this.

On the cybersec front, I think we'll see insurers exit the cyber-insurance market. It was tough for me to understand the profit part, with the risk side being so variable. We'll see more ransomware/data-theft incidents, as that is the way to make big bank for criminals.

Lastly for me, containers. I think we'll see their use continue to grow, but we'll start to see a bunch more emphasis on the security side. Should be an interesting time.

I usually do a backward looking reflection, and see how I did with my previous predictions, but the last two years have been bonkers, even if I had felt like doing some guessing I feel like I'd have been all wrong.
