I'm pretty disappointed to report, but the writing on the wall is pretty clear -- Twitter is dying. New owner Musk seems to be speed running bad descision making, and small things are starting to strain and crack already. Laying off 50% of the staff then arbitrarily firing people who call out your nonsense is not... confidence inspiring. And his ideas to charge users to be verified instead of building bridges to increase ad revenue seem nonsensical. A good portion of Infosec people have already moved off of Twitter, and I only see that trend accelerating for tech people. What will be the death blow for twitter will be if non-tech people start to move off in mass.
It's a shame, because Twitter has so many cool and interesting use cases, but unless Musk tries to listen to users and staff I don't see how user exodus stops and things turn around. In the meantime, I've started to accumulate connections on one of the main mastodon Infosec instances. Plan for the worst and hope for the best, as they say.
